Eyelash Extensions - Are They Safe?
Eyelash extensions mean having long, luscious eyelashes; a new-found confidence in your natural good looks; never having to wear mascara… Sounds wonderful, doesn't it? But, you ask yourself, are eyelash extensions safe?
We promise safe application of eyelash extensions, and education on the ongoing care and safe practices required when you come to the Wakeup Beauty Full Service Salon for eyelash extensions in Torrance, CA.
While there has been a fair amount of criticism of the trend to eyelash extensions, the procedure is entirely safe. Just take the time to maintain them properly and receive regular touch-ups, and your eyelash extensions may even prove safer for your eyes and the skin surrounding them than daily use of mascara.
Hygiene and cleanliness
At the Wakeup Beauty Full Service Salon, we adhere strictly to American College of Ophthalmology recommendations. You can be assured that eyelash sets are perfectly clean and that all instruments used during the process of applying them are always properly cleaned to meet the hygiene standards necessary to avoid infection of any kind.
Maintenance and care instruction
You will receive full instruction on the care of your eyelash extensions immediately following the procedure, and on the ongoing care that should be taken to maintain them. It is negligence of proper care that results in eyelash extensions attracting dirt and bacteria, and consequent infection.
They must be kept dry for the first six hours. After that, the lashes should be cleaned each day with an oil-free makeup remover using a mascara wand. Use warm water to rinse them.
Initial precautions
Problems for many people involve, not the wonderfully lightweight eyelash extensions themselves but redness, swelling and inflammation caused by the glue used in the process. Chemicals in the glue can result in eye irritation or dry eyes and also impact on the sensitive skin surrounding the eyes. The first thing our fully certified esthetician will do is to administer a patch test to rule out any adverse reactions. The tape used during the actual application will also be tested on your skin.
The procedure
Once you have selected the eyelash extensions you want – there are a number of different textures, styles and lengths available. During the process, eighty lashes per eye and upwards will be applied to your natural eyelashes. This is a minimum two-hour procedure with your eyes taped partly closed, meaning that you must have the ability to relax and keep still. Our estheticians will not risk using the sharp tweezers required to apply the individual lashes if you are likely to any phobic reaction to staying still for so long with your eyes taped.
Care of your natural lashes
Your natural eyelashes will not be damaged as long as you resist pulling on them. If you need any or all of them removed, it should be done in the salon where the adhesive will be professionally dissolved so that the extensions can be safely removed without damage to your lashes.
