As a person yet to decide between these two forms of cosmetic tattooing, wanting to know the differences between them is understandable. While permanent makeup has been there for more than 25 years, microblading (semi-permanent makeup) has only been there for 3 or so years.

Microblading is semi-permanent in that it is placed only a few layers deep into the dermis. The outcome here looks more natural, than permanent makeup, in that the strokes come out sharper, crisper and mimic real hair.

 

This form of cosmetic tattooing uses tattooing techniques in applying designs that bear a resemblance to makeup. It is also referred to as derma-pigmentation or micro-pigmentation. This can lead to complications like keloids, scars, allergies to pigments, infection, and skin peeling. Another drawback of this cosmetic tattooing lies in their use of regular tattooing ink which can change color with time as well as contain harmful minerals such as mercury and cobalt.

Another issue with permanent makeup lies in its inability to provide the natural and full look that is offered by microblading. In fact, many people who have applied it in their brows have regretted it courtesy of its unnatural outlook and everlasting nature.

 

This form of cosmetic tattooing is usually used on the eyebrows. Microblading is semi-permanent because it is less invasive as the pigment is not inserted deeply into the skin. The fact that only a small amount of pigment is inserted into the skin means that it fades with time. Depending on a number of factors, including sun exposure and skin type lifestyle, it can last anywhere between 1 to 3 years.
